At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a significant private discussion inside Putin’s armored Aurus limousine. The one-on-one talks lasted about an hour, underlining the close and strategic nature of their relations.

Modi later shared a photo from inside the car on social media platform X, commenting, “Conversations with him are always insightful.”The limousine provided a secure environment for the discussion, allowing the two leaders to speak freely away from external distractions. Observers suggested that sensitive and confidential topics not intended for the public ear were likely addressed.

During these discussions, Modi reiterated the enduring “special and privileged” partnership between India and Russia. They explored key areas of bilateral cooperation, including economic, energy, financial, and security matters. Modi also voiced hope for an early and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

This private yet impactful meeting follows mounting tensions with the United States, due to punitive tariffs levied on India for its purchase of discounted Russian oil.
