Bitcoin erased early gains on Monday after briefly touching the $109,000 mark, ending the day lower but still closing June with a 3.5% monthly rise. The world's largest cryptocurrency rallied sharply in early trade, buoyed by institutional inflows and optimism around macroeconomic data. However, profit-taking and market caution led to a sharp reversal in afternoon trade.

According to CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin was trading at around $105,200 at the time of writing, after touching an intraday high of $108,900. Despite the pullback, Bitcoin posted its second consecutive monthly gain, following May’s 12% increase.

Market analysts pointed to multiple factors driving the brief price surge. Continued demand for Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S., particularly among retail investors, played a crucial role. Inflows into spot ETFs totaled nearly $1.8 billion in June, signaling sustained institutional interest. Additionally, a softer-than-expected U.S. inflation report fueled hopes that the Federal Reserve may pause rate hikes, boosting appetite for risk assets.

However, volatility returned quickly, as traders opted to lock in profits near the $109K level. The sell-off was also influenced by rumors around potential regulatory changes in Europe and Asia, creating short-term uncertainty.

"Bitcoin is still in a macro uptrend, but such corrections are normal given the steep climb over the past two months," said Rachel Lin, CEO of SynFutures. "The market needs to digest gains before it can sustainably break the $110K psychological level."

Technical charts show that Bitcoin faces resistance near $110,000, while support remains strong around $102,000. A break above the $110K mark could trigger further upside toward $120,000, while a failure to hold current levels might see the coin retest $100K in the short term.

Meanwhile, Ethereum also saw gains, rising nearly 2.2% for the month, while altcoins like Solana and Avalanche were flat to slightly negative. The total cryptocurrency market cap stood at $2.38 trillion, with Bitcoin dominance at around 54.1%.

In conclusion, Bitcoin's June performance reflects a healthy but volatile uptrend. While the dip from $109K dampened some investor enthusiasm, broader sentiment remains bullish heading into the second half of 2025.
